Re: Connection speed

It really depends on your package. You get Telecom 3G, Telecom ADSL, MTC 3G and MTC 4G. There are other ISP's too.
I personally have a 256 ADSL Telecom package, downloading at 26KBps. I get ingame ping of 96 - 102 on CSGO which I feel is pretty good - and if I don't win, I just blame it on the ping. (MTC 4G the unlimited package has an impressive speed)

I assume you have the same package but you have many background processes that might make you lag to that extent. You should have the same speed and latency like I do. Before you can ask Telecom to visit your place, make sure your PC is "good" because if they come there and test your line and it's fine...

I think there are many tutorials out there on how to and what to check on your PC so that your bandwidth stays on your gaming and is not used up by unnecessary resources. The other day forgot I was downloading on utorrent and complaining of a 500 ping in game.

Other than that, if you have wimax or similar wireless technology that you share with others, another device might be using your bandwidth. I could go on for hours talking about this, but I believe you can find all info on da web

Log into your router and click on DSL. You should get the actual speed statistic to and from the server...
By da way, if you have a 1Meg line or above, I would be worried tho

What package do you have ? ADSL 368 ? (Upgrade 256) ? Seems like it... Well, that's the best it can do !
On Utorrent, you'd get speeds ranging around 18 - 36 . When you tjoon it properly (many nice tutorials out there) , then you get decent average download speeds.

Many background programs also affect your totals... Sometimes,

1.) windows update downloads updates
2.) Firefox downloads updates
3.) Steam downloads game or program updates
4.) Antivirus downloads program or definition updates
5.) Adobe downloads updates (Flash, reader, Photoshop)
6.) Java downloads updates
7.) Skype downloads updates
8.) Browsers (Firefox, IE) may have connections to websites open

All or most of the above can be configured in such a way as to when and how they are updated.

Also it helps scanning for malware / spyware / virii ! I recommend Malwarebytes Anti-malware ! Check your network monitor in your task manager. That should give you an idea what programs or services are using your bandwidth. I also recommend configuring your startup in such a way, that only the essential programs start.

With time you will know what program will eat your bandwidth, when to close it and when to manually update it. Additionally , you can download nifty programs, designed for gamers that checks if a game is played and "allocates" all the bandwidth to that game.

Re: Connection speed

As for Utorrent, try using these :

http://www.utorrent.com/help/guides/connection-setup

http://forum.utorrent.com/viewtopic.php?id=15992

You can also give Vuze a try. It will pull your entire bandwidth...

As for my settings for Utorrent, I took most of the points mentioned in the two links above. I also have a list of trackers that I add to each of my torrents should they go slow. Some of the settings might do it for you while others might not ... just need to try and see.

p.s.: Never heard of the other program you mentioned. I would recommend staying at renown programs as shifty unknown ones might do weird things...

Fixed

Also on the main topic, you won't get speeds above what your line supports, unless telecom glitches out (like they used to)

Re: Connection speed

My opinion on internet in Namibia - Ping to SA is playable, to Europe barely. Speeds are depressingly slow in general. The fastest we have in Nam, doesn't even come close to the slowest they have oversees. I've just grown used to living with it, that's how I cope
